Phillip's Coney Island
747 N High St
Columbus OH United States
This family-owned restaurant has a storefront in an old brick building. While offering American fare such as Coney dogs, sloppy Joe and hamburgers, there is also a Greek influence. They reportedly serve baklava, karedopeta and rice pudding, however it was not apparent from the black menu board with white lettering. The walls feature pictures from Greece and some American artwork. There is a diner type counter and tables with chairs. Prices are reasonable, often offering two sandwiches or dogs for the lunch special. American breakfast choices are offered until Noon. The clientele is a wide mix of all ages including fashionable students from the campus area, working stiffs, the non-working, dressy downtown workers and others in the Short North area including some from a local retirement community. While it is a popular restaurant, you can usually find a seat at lunchtime. The kitchen is partially open to the dining room, while the area behind the counter is used for fountain drinks and a few other items on the menu. This is a cash only restaurant, so be sure to check your wallet first.
