Swamp Buggy Grill
19502 E. Tamiami Trail
Naples FL United States
Located just outside Naples at the western end of the Tamiami Trail, the restaurant is a museum of sorts, paying homage to Southwest Florida’s unique pastime with numerous displays of racing memorabilia from the sport’s 50-year history. Everything from race posters to the swimsuit worn by an early Swamp Buggy Queen are on exhibit, and photos and press clips are laminated into the tabletops. Even the newspaper-style menu is a tribute to swamp buggy racing, with items like swamp chili and alligator fritters. Appetizers are called “practice laps” and specials are referred to as “big features.” You know a place can handle a scrappy crowd when the menu encourages debate as this one does: “Please let us know your opinions of our food, our service, our decor, religion, politics, the weather, the Skunk Ape [the Everglades’ version of Bigfoot], or O.J.’s guilt or innocence.” The grilled grouper sandwich rocks.
